Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia Gordonii is the latest fad ingredient for diet pills.  Supporters of Hoodia claim that it was used as an appetite suppressant by the South African natives for hundreds of years.  Some credible sources, however, say that it was actually used for indigestion.   This review will give you a better view at what hoodia gordonii really is and why it is absolutely worthless as a weight loss supplement.

P57

The active extract in hoodia that aids in appetite suppression is called p57.  Reportedly the extracting of this p57 isn’t easily done, hence the reason that no one puts the p57 itself into the diet pill.  Instead they put in hoodia that only contains some p57.  Researchers believe that it would be literally impossible to take a high enough dosage of hoodia to be effective at all.  Regardless, the diet pill companies are throwing the hoodia name around like its the best thing to come along since sliced bread.  Naturally, they drop the p57 name all over their advertisements to add some kind of perceived credibility.

Marketing Tactics

To date I have yet to find one single clinical study that supports hoodia gordonii’s claim to aid in weight loss.  Not one.  There are plenty of fabricated “studies” out there, but not one of them is documented or independently performed.  On different hoodia hawking websites you’ll often see many of the same selling tactics such as posting “certifications” showing that they provide “authentic” hoodia, showing “official seals”, or including magazine covers that supposedly feature hoodia.  All of which are simply fabricated.

Aside from that, we’ll say that those certifications do somehow prove that they have real hoodia.  Big deal.  I can certify all day long that I have authentic lawn clippings in my diet pill.  But if the ingredient isn’t effective, what does it matter?

Conclusion

Don’t fall for Hoodia’s marketing hype.  Hoodia gordonii is a fad.  A fad that is making hoodia sellers’ wallets alot heavier and not making you any lighter.
