After May 2009, it was probably a pretty somber place at the Hydroxycut company. Why? Well, that’s when all of their products were ordered to be recalled by the FDA because of 29 reports of serious health complications and even death associated with their products. After some time spent re-grouping (and maybe a little “soul-searching”), the company has scrapped the old generation of products and come out with just three new supplements. Their new flagship diet supplement, Hydroxycut Advanced, may be the only hope for this company, but is it worth taking a chance on for real weight loss?

HydroxyCut Advanced Ingredients

The very complex formulas usually associated with Hydroxycut have given way to a slightly simpler blend, which aside from a daily dose of vitamins C and D, is 562 mg of:

Hydroxagen

• Cissus quadrangularis (2.5% Phytosterols)
• Goji Extract (Lycium barbarum)
• Acerola extract (Malphigia glabra)
• Zeaxanthin

HydroxyPlus

• Caffeine anhydrous – 200 mg
• Pomegranite extract
• Blueberry extract
• Hibiscus flower
• Bilberry extract

The two ingredients that the company considers to primary in this blend are caffeine and cissus quadrangularis (sometimes known as Veldt Grape). This is a significant dose of caffeine, equivalent to about 2 cups of premium blend coffee. As for cissus, it is a Ayurvedic herb that has been used as a remedy for osteoporosis, asthma, cough, hemorrhoids, and gonorrhea. Any of those sound like weight loss to you?

The company makes a big deal of how its primary ingredient (caffeine) has been proven to help people lose weight. This is absolutely true, but they don’t mention it is also one of the cheapest ingredients you can find. You can get a bottle of 80 200 mg caffeine tablets for as low as $6 in some drug stores. The marketing is what “justifies” a higher price here.

As the “latest and greatest” from HydroxyCut, this product is certainly not that great. For all intents and purposes, it is a caffeine pill with a few vitamins and weak herbal remedies for random conditions thrown in. This is not to say that all the other ingredients are bad, but beyond the 200 mg of caffeine you can’t be getting an effective dose of all of them. We don’t recommend risking any money on HydroxyCut’s excuse for a safer diet product.
