Raspberry Ketone
Raspberry ketone is a chemical compound derived from raspberries. It’s chemical structure is similar to capsiacin which is believed to help burn fat.1
So does raspberry ketone have some evidence backing up its claims to aid in weight loss? While there isn’t much research out there, we did find one such study.
Research
The study used mice to see whether raspberry ketone (RK) could help prevent obesity. Over ten weeks two groups of mice were studied, one group receiving varying amounts of RK (.5, 1, and 2%) while the other was fed 1% RK for only the last 6 weeks of the study. The results? “RK prevented the high-fat-diet-induced elevations in body weight and the weights of the liver and visceral adipose tissues.”
Translation: raspberry ketone can help prevent as well as improve obesity.2
Conclusion
We usually like to see more than just one study on the ingredient before we’ll fully accept the results. In this case, the study was also only done on mice, not on humans. While this is common, we still feel that more research is needed before we can difinitively say that raspberry ketone is an effective diet pill ingredient. As it stands, raspberry ketone certainly has promise and we look forward to seeing more research done. For now, it gets a neutral review.
