Wheatgrass
One of the biggest crazes in the history of healthy eating, wheatgrass is, in fact, very healthy for you. Research suggests that 1 pound of wheatgrass (dried) is nutritionally equivalent to 20 pounds of garden vegetables. Rather impressive.
According wikipedia, some of wheatgrass’s claims follow:
- improve the digestive system
- prevent cancer
- prevent diabetes
- prevent heart disease
- cure constipation
- detoxify heavy metals from the bloodstream
- cleanse the liver
- prevent hair loss
- help make menopause more manageable
- promote general wellbeing
As you can see, wheatgrass has many, many health benefits. But do these correlate directly with weight loss? There is no research showing that wheatgrass performs any of the functions that are directly involved in weight loss (such as increasing energy, increasing the metabolic rate, suppressing appetites, etc.). Is wheatgrass a good supplement to take? Yes. If wheatgrass is the main ingredient in a diet pill, will it help you lose weight? Not likely.
